		<description><![CDATA[English Version 梅振魁医生(1862-1924)并不是专职的发明家，而其于1908年的针对栗子的加强版坚果钳子的专利（“坚果钳子附件”，USPN883，538）实际上是他被大众所知的唯一一项注册专利。针对同一个发明，他在加拿大也注册了专利权保护。与多数广东台山人一样，他来美国创业，并且再也没有回国。跟随着他的哥哥，他1875年移居纽约，成为一名家庭佣工并接受洗礼成为了基督教徒。一些富裕的卫理公会成员看出了他成为传教士的天分，于是资助他到新泽西的佩宁顿神学院（Pennington Seminary）还有费城的杰佛逊医学院(Jefferson Medical College)学习。他于1890年获得了医学的学位。这是第一个从那个学校毕业的中国学生，也是第一个在美国做医师的中国人。 除了担任医生的工作，梅先生还靠着做翻译来维持生计。他一直为美国移民局工作，直到他因协助中国偷渡者到美国而被解雇。但是他最为人所知的还是作为两个最高法院的案子的当事人的事情，他被诉滥用信件非法销售药物以及开处方。那些处方有可能导致海洛因或吗啡上瘾。美国诉梅振魁，241 U.S. 394 (1916)，以及梅振魁诉美国，254 U.S. 189 (1920)。这些案子促使了早期的联邦致力于规范麻醉剂的使用，与他的专利发明不同，这些案子时至今日还经常被提起。最高法院推翻了他在第一个案子中的罪名，但维持了第二个案子中的。他为此在亚特兰大监狱服刑两年。 对于一个在外国申请载录的专利来说，像这样以“我，作为中国皇帝的子民”作为开头的申请文件是非常少见的。但是，中国在太平天国运动（1850-1864）及随后的清朝末年（1889）期间，曾尝试制定专利法。因此，在中国会不会存在其他以“身为中国皇帝的子民”作为开头的专利申请文件，就不得而知了。 这个专利的申请耗费了不到两年的时间（自1906年7月18日申请，至1908年3月31日授予专利）。我们希望美国专利及商标局跟中国知识产权局能够再一次回归这么短的申请周期，让专利申请时间能保持在两年以下。在今日的中国，这个专利很可能会作为实用新型专利而被载录，因为它就简单地由一个新的设备组合而成。但我们在美国专利商标局的数据库里再也找不到对于这个设备更多的评论了。 梅医生以及他另外两个兄弟的传奇，就是苏思纲（Scott D.
