“The Great Britain–China Centre is seeking a Deputy Director to develop its partnership project work in China in the field of rule of law development and to lead new initiatives in such areas as legal, judicial and media reform, good governance, management training and political and economic dialogues with China.
The successful applicant will be bilingual or close to bilingual in Mandarin Chinese and English, have lived and worked in China and have relevant project work and/or diplomatic experience, excellent representational and communication skills and proven leadership and teamworking ability.
He or she will have experience in raising funds from sponsorship or charitable foundations or from international organisations such as the European Union, and a recognized legal qualification from the UK or China and/or a strong track record in law- related or judiciary-related work in China.
The Centre is a non-departmental public body under the supervision of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office that works to promote understanding between Britain and China, working with official and non-governmental organisations in China and throughout Europe, including universities and research institutes. The post will be based in London but will involve frequent travel to China.
The appointee will be a self-motivated individual capable of strategic thinking, making sound judgements in politically sensitive situations and of leading, motivating and managing a small team. He or she will have emotional resilience, high standards and proven integrity.
