I have just received word that Prof. Jiang Ping, a giant of Chinese legal scholarship, has passed away. He was an expert on civil law and Roman law and a strong advocate for the rule of law.
He was also kind enough to write an introduction to my book on Chinese IP law, which he wrote 25 years ago this month (see below).
He will be long remembered by his colleagues and many students.

Jerome Cohen had a brief note on Prof. Jiang: https://www.jeromecohen.net/jerrys-blog/2023/12/31/remembering-professor-jiang-ping; the Washington Post I believe also recently ran an article. https://www.washingtonpost.com/obituaries/2023/12/31/jiang-ping-china-legal-dies/; so did the NY Times https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/27/world/asia/jiang-ping-dead.html. There are many other postings and articles out there now. Sorry it took so long to respond! Mark
