Mike Mangelson Joins USPTO Team in Shanghai -欢迎!

The news is out about the new USPTO offiical in China.  Although it will be a few more months before Mike is sent to Shanghai to serve as the IP officer at the US Consulate, the government machinery is now in the works to a point where the curtain is drawn on the new PTO officer in China.

Mike Mangelson will be heading up the PTO team in Shanghai.  Mike has 20 years of experience as a business IP attorney with a focus on China services. Prior to joining the Commercial Service/USPTO, Mike was a partner at Stoel Rives LLP in Salt Lake City where he assisted clients in protecting and enforcing their business IP, including trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets, and in commercializing their IP through licensing and other IP transactions. Mike also consulted clients on branding, counterfeiting, marketing law and long-term IP strategies to help clients secure and protect market positioning and competitive advantages in the U.S. and abroad. Mike  served as Chair of Stoel Rives’ China group and was the founder and former Chair of the firm’s Salt Lake City Technology & Intellectual Property group.  He has also been an Adjunct Professor at Brigham Young University law school since 2002. Mike has frequently been recognized for excellence in his practice area, being selected by Best Lawyers in America®, a well-known attorney ratings service, as the region’s Trademark Law Lawyer of the Year 2012 and recognized as a top IP attorney in Best Lawyers (2007-2014) and Chambers USA: Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2007-2014). 

Prior to Stoel Rives, Mike studied Chinese and practiced business IP law, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions with an international law firm in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Los Angeles.  Mike is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Mike is joined by Joel Blank (in Beijing) and Tim Browning (Guangzhou) as well as an able team of Chinese lawyers and support in all three cities.
