The Berkeley Center for Law and Technology (BCLT) will be hosting two events in late April and early May. Both events are free and carry CLE credit.
On April 27, 2021, BCLT will host our third annual “Tech, Trade and China” program. This year’s program focuses on “The Future of Multilateral Approaches to China Tech Policy.” The German Marshall Fund and the Asia Society of Northern California are cohosting the program. There will be keynote speeches by former California Governor Jerry Brown and former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, in addition to several other great speakers, such as former PTO Director Andre Iancu, WIPO DDG Lisa Jorgenson, former WTO DDG Alan Wolff, Semiconductor Industry Association Vice President Jimmy Goodrich, and others. The program will cover collaborative approaches towards multilateral institutions such as the WTO and WIPO, cooperation in export controls and cyber space, and the prospects for working with China in climate change and public health. In the afternoon, there will be a separate session on improving technological competitiveness. Here are the agenda and registration link.
On May 6, BCLT will be hosting “Quantum Leap: Developments in China IP Law over the Past Two Years.” The program will review the essence of legislative and structural changes in China in all major IP rights, as well as antitrust and IP enforcement in China. If you had 90 minutes to spend to understand how China’s IP regime has changed and how those changes impact the foreign business community, this is the program to take. Here are the agenda and registration link.
Also, please mark your calendar down to attend these other programs: a May 13 book talk with Prof. Angela Huyue Zhang from the University of Hong Kong regarding her new book on Chinese Antitrust Exceptionalism. My colleagues Rob Merges and Hao Yuan will be joining the discussion that will focus on technology and IP issues. Later in May, we will also be launching a four-part series on IP enforcement developments in China. More information on these events will be available shortly.
